Our Services

At Sussex Eyecare, there is more to your eye examination than finding if you need glasses or contact lenses.  We also carry out a range of tests to assess the health of your eyes.  As everyone is different, your eye examination is tailored to your individual requirements.

Our COMPREHENSIVE 45 minute EYE EXAMINATION  is £55.00, Including digital retinal imaging and OCT deep scans

(This cost is reduced to £35 for those with NHS eligibility.)

  • Following a discussion of history and symptoms, eyes are examined thoroughly using a variety of techniques to detect any problems that may require further examination or treatment.
  • Fundus photography and retinal imaging enables a record of the condition of the back of the eye to be kept for further monitoring of any issues arising. The OCT deep scan has the ability to detect problems in the eye prior to any symptoms being present, allowing early treatment which can dramatically improve the outcome.
  • Eye pressures are measured using Applanation Tonometry - a more accurate and comfortable method than the basic “air-puff”.
  • Further discussion follows regarding any issues detected, enabling the most suitable course of action to be taken. All treatment options and further referral is discussed as required.
  • Refraction for vision correction is carried out, taking into account your specific requirements to produce the most suitable solution for you.
  • This 45 minute visit costs £55.00, however those with NHS eligibility may access this service at a reduced fee of £35.00
  • Those over 60 years of age, diabetics, those on income related benefits and those with certain eye conditions are eligible for NHS services, generaly every 2 years.

Sussex Eyecare is a MECS (Minor Eye Conditions Service) accredited practice, and although we can no longer offer this service as an NHS funded service, we can offer this service privately. This means we can deal with minor eye conditions to alleviate pressure on GP surgeries. The MECS appointment is a medical Eye examination as opposed to a sight test, and offers diagnosis and treatment regimes for a number of non-sight related eye conditions.

We still offer a basic screening test funded by the NHS for those eligible, which is shorter in duration with more limited availability. This consists of a physical eye examination to detect any abnormality in the eye, and then a refraction to ascertain that the current vision correction specification is correct, or to prescribe an updated one if required. If any abnormality is detected, a referral will be made to the GP to enable further investigation, and treatment if required.
